A Class of 2017 offensive lineman from the southeast got a school visit from Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Manning on Friday, and the coach also stuck around for the prospect’s game that night.

Roswell Blessed Trinity senior Jacob Bolton picked up an offer from the Cyclones last month and said he’s continued to build a good relationship with the man that could be his future position coach.

“I pretty much text with Iowa State every few days and it’s nice talking to Coach Manning,” said Bolton. “He wants to get me up there and I’m trying to get up there soon. I don’t know when exactly, but it will be for my official visit. We’re looking at scheduling it in a couple weeks. Coach Manning has done as much as he can over the phone; I definitely need to get up there and experience Iowa State and Ames.”

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Bolton said he’s heard a lot about the Cyclones’ need to rebuild the numbers in its big man pipeline.

“They’ve said they’re in need of some offensive linemen and are talking about early playing time,” he said. “They’ve watched every one of my games on film and like my aggression and that I’m a downhill player. They want me to check out the campus and think I would like it a lot.”

The new coaching staff at I-State has made a good impression on Bolton.

“I’ve done a little bit of research about Iowa State and how it brought in all new coaches,” Bolton said. “They’re real energetic and I like the way they talk on the phone. Now it’s just a matter of seeing it all for myself.”

Bolton also has a Power-5 offer from Maryland to go along with others in the FBS and FCS ranks. He said ISU, Maryland and Georgia Southern are three likely official visits he will take, but is unsure of the other two.
