Although he won’t sign a national letter-of-intent until February of 2019, a St. Louis (Mo.) offensive lineman recently picked up his first offer from Iowa State.

Trinity Catholic’s Ira Henry has yet to finish his sophomore season and has already gotten the attention of several programs from around the Midwest. The first of those to step up with an offer was Iowa State back on October 26th.

“They had come to my school and saw me practice, talked to my coach for a little while and then got some of my film,” said Henry. “I guess they really liked my film and were very interested in me. The next day, the Iowa State coach got ahold of my coach and offered me a scholarship. I was very excited to know that I am able to play at the next level at a Power-5 school.”

In the weeks since picking up his first offer, Henry has studied up on the Cyclones and said he looks forward to seeing Ames for himself in the coming months.

“I’ve done some research on the school and I like it,” he said. “I watched a documentary on YouTube about their offensive line. I think they have a lot to offer offensive linemen. I also like that they play in the Big 12, going against the teams that they do. It’s really a good school that’s not too far from home.

“My high school is still playing, so I’ll probably take an unofficial visit in the offseason over the winter or spring.”

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Henry said his game is still developing as he gains more experience at the varsity level.

“I really excel at run blocking,” he said. “We have a play called the Georgia Lift, when I pull through the A-gap or B-gap. I like being the lead blocker and having the running backs running behind me. My pass protection is improving. I need to keep working on my footwork.”

Henry has also garnered recruiting attention from Missouri, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Northern Illinois.
