The first Power-5 offer for an Ohio lineman in the 2020 class came out of the blue and caught the prospect off guard over the course of one school day earlier this month.

Groveport Madison junior Terah Edwards said he didn’t expect to see Coach Jon Heacock in his school and that the process moved quickly from casual conversation to offer being extended.

“I had a coach follow me (about a month ago), but I didn’t think anything of it,” said Edwards. “But then they came in and loved my film and loved what I do, so they offered me. That was huge and I’m really blessed. I want to go down there this spring to see what it’s like. It’ll be for a basketball game.”

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Edwards is now up to two P5 offers, as Purdue stepped up with one after the Cyclones. He also has ones from Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Ohio and Toledo.

Originally scouting him to play on his side of the ball, Heacock told Edwards he would likely be pegged to move to the other side if he ends up signing with ISU in December.

“They originally had me on their board as a defensive player, but I had a better offensive year,” Edwards said. “He and my coach evaluated my film and he loved it. They like how I finish my blocks and how I get out in space, can run and murder people on the field. We run the Wing-T and I’m a pulling guard, so I’m in the open field with backers a lot punishing them.

“He said I’d be hearing back from him in a week. I went back to class after talking to him and soon after they pulled me back into the office to offer me. I guess he had called back and talked to the staff during that time and they had decided to offer then.”

Edwards said he likes the possibilities that could open up in Ames if he ends up there as an interior lineman.

“(Heacock) said usually their guards can develop into centers,” Edwards said. “They usually develop them to be great centers. He said the center they have right now will be making some money in the next years playing that position (at the next level). I want to get my degree in school, but if they can develop me to take it to the next level, I’d love to get the opportunity.”

The lineman said he’s planning an unofficial visit for ISU’s Prospect Day on March 9th, which coincides with the basketball team hosting Texas Tech.
