Iowa State is in the final evaluation process on a Class of 2017 wide receiver from the state of Wisconsin, getting a copy of the prospect’s highlight tape recently.

Madison West senior Terrell Carey said the Cyclones have been in touch with him for a while and recently had in on campus for the Kansas State game. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Carey has an offer from Purdue to go with FBS schools Buffalo, Ohio and Wyoming.

Whether he’ll get one from the Cyclones remains to be seen.

“They’ve been slow-playing with me mostly, just telling me that they really like my game film and seeing how it goes throughout the process,” said Carey. “I just sent them my end of the season highlight film and I’m waiting to hear back from them.”

I-State hosted Carey for a game-day visit earlier this season and the recruit said it was a positive experience.

“I loved the fans and thought it was an amazing game-day atmosphere,” Carey said. “They’re not doing that well record-wise this season, but you still see so many fans supporting their team and letting the players and coaches know they still believe in them. That’s what really got to me while I was there…the fan support.”

Carey also said he was encouraged by the new offense the coaching staff has installed this season.

“I really love how they set the run up to the pass,” he said. “I like how they take shots. The coaches are not scared to take shots on first down and that’s what I really like about them.”

Although he’ll sign a national letter-of-intent in 2 ½ months, Carey said he’s perfectly content to wait it out to see what his best fit will be.

“I’m just approaching things very slowly and letting everyone come in,” he said. “I just love the Iowa State coaching staff and how young and enthusiastic they are. They’re happy to be there and are bringing so much heart to the table. I like the school a lot. I have a few teachers from my school that went there and they’ve told me nothing but good things about it.”
