Because of the rule change that brings a fair catch back to the 25 yard line, why do we or anyone try to return kicks anymore? Fair catch and start at the 25, try returning it and take your chances. I have to believe that the data would tell you to take the placement at the 25. In fact, due to extra chances you are taking with a return, I would think that you would need to consistently return it past the 30 to make it worthwhile. So why does ISU special teams just fair catch every kick and take it on the 25 where Brock can open it up right away. None of this starting at the 12 and 13. I am a big data guy for a living, and you have look at the data and the returns (think moneyball), and I am not sure that doing anything other than fair catch makes sense anymore.
