The Iowa State women's basketball program and head coach Bill Fennelly announced Wednesday that two prep standouts have signed their letters of intent. The two players, who both hail from Minnesota, have signed to play for the Cyclones starting in 2017-18 season.

“We are excited to add two outstanding players, people, and families to Cyclone Nation, Fennelly said. “Kristin and Rae are the two best players in the state of Minnesota and they will provide us much needed help inside and on the perimeter. They both committed to Iowa State early and their passion for Iowa State is exciting and refreshing. I know our fans will love getting to know them.”

Rae Johnson, a 5-7 guard from Albertville, Minnesota, is a three-time First-Team All-Conference honoree who has started all 88 games in her career for St. Michael Albertville High School. Johnson has averaged double figures and dished over 3.0 assists per contest in each of her three seasons with the Knights. Johnson most recently averaged 16.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.6 steals in her junior campaign, while leading the Knights to a 27-4 record and earning a spot on the Mn Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State First-Team.

“The game has really become one that you need good guards and Rae is an outstanding perimeter player who can play point or off guard,” Fennelly said. “Like Kristin, Rae is one of the best players in Minnesota. She and her family will be great additions to Cyclone Nation.”

Kristin Scott, a 6-2 center from Kasson, Minnesota, is a two-time All-State selection who has started all 92 games of her career for Kasson-Mantorville High School. Scott has averaged double figures in all three of her seasons with the KoMets, averaging 13.7 points her freshman year and 16.8 points her sophomore year. She went on to average a double-double with 22.6 points and 10.4 rebounds in her junior campaign. Scott is also a skilled blocker, as she has averaged over 3.0 blocks per game each season, holding the school record in blocked shots. For her efforts, Scott was named to the All-Conference team the last three seasons and was an All-State selection in her sophomore and junior campaign.

“Kristin is a versatile and skilled post player,” Fennelly said. “She has great hands and can score the ball in a variety of ways from all over the floor. Kristin is one of the best players in the state of Minnesota and fills a need that we have in the post. We are excited that she and her family are now Cyclones.”

Johnson and Scott are ranked the No. 1 and No. 2 overall prospects in the state of Minnesota by both 5 State Hoops and Northstar Girls Hoops. They were also ranked top-100 prospects by ProspectsNation.com.
