Fourth Quarter:
ISU was unable to do anything with its opening possession of the final quarter and the Cowboys took over possession at their own 42-yard line after a short punt from Colin Downing. OSU would need just eight plays to go 58 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 31-28. Chris Carson came up with the key play of the drive when he rushed eight yards on a 3rd-and-6 to keep the kicking unit on the sideline. Three plays later, J.W. Walsh kept for a 16-yard touchdown run with 11:33 left in the game.
The Cyclone offense sputtered once again midway through the fourth quarter and had to punt, giving the Cowboys possession at the 16-yard line.
Even with the long field, OSU had no problems driving 84 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Along the way, the Cowboys converted on a 3rd-and-15 when Mason Rudolph connected with David Glidden over the middle for a 31-yard pass. Three plays later, the duo connected once again this time for a 13-yard pass on 3rd-and-2. Three plays later, Walsh entered the game behind center and rolled left to find Jeff Carr for a seven-yard touchdown pass. The Cowpokes took a 35-31 lead with 3:06 remaining.
The Cyclones had one final opportunity to mount a long scoring drive to win the game, but Joel Lanning’s pass to Carson Epps near the left sideline sailed high and was intercepted by Jordan Sterns. OSU ran out the clock to remain unbeaten and I-State fell to 3-7.
Advantage: Oklahoma State.
