Fourth Quarter:

Poised to tack on another score in a blowout over Kansas, ISU quarterback Sam Richardson threw a pass directly into the arms of linebacker Marcquis Roberts who returned it down the left sideline 83 yards for a touchdown. Richardson looked to be throwing to Mike Warren, but the tailback stopped his route and Roberts was open to intercept the pass. The defensive touchdown cut the Cyclone lead to 31-13 with 13:30 remaining to play.

Once again, ISU had a quick answer for a Kansas touchdown, needing just five plays to go 74 yards for a touchdown. Richardson completed all three passes of his pass attempts for 55 yards including a 41-yarder to Jauan Wesley that almost went for a touchdown. Mike Warren rushed seven yards up the middle for the touchdown to cap off the drive and give his team a 38-13 lead with 11:34 remaining.

Kansas’ offense drove into Cyclone territory on the ensuing drive, but again it was some defensive pressure from Wally Burnham’s defense that would help turn it over on downs. Willie Harvey came rushing through on a 2nd-and-10 to sack Ryan Willis for a 10-yard loss, effectively ending the KU threat.

Warren continued his day of superlatives later in the quarter when he went over 170 yards to become the all-time single-game leading freshman rusher in school history. He would finish with 18 carries for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Advantage: Iowa State.
