Iowa State Unveils 2019 Hall of Fame Class

The Iowa State Letterwinners Club announced today Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2019. Six former Cyclone stars will be inducted into the Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame on Sept. 20 in a special ceremony at the Sukup End Zone Club in Ames. All six inductees will be honored at halftime of the Iowa State-Louisiana-Monroe game on Saturday Sept. 21.

Public tickets are $50 and athletic alumni are encouraged to join us for the entire weekend with reunion benefits.

The Iowa State Hall of Fame was established in 1997 and 188 Cyclone legends have been enshrined. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed upon by the Iowa State Athletics Department and decided by a selection committee comprised of ISU administrators and athletic alumni.

Gina Curtis (1998-2003) – Women’s Track & Field
·Five-time All-American (high jump)
·Four-time Big 12 champion
·Runner-up in the high jump at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships
·ISU high jump record-holder in both indoor (6-03.5) and outdoor (6-02.25)
·Three-time Academic All-District
·Two-time Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year (2002, 2003)
·Indoor Midwest Regional Athlete of the Year (2003)
·Olympic Trials finalist (2004)

Jack Flemming (1935-37) – Men’s Basketball
  • Converse All-American (1937)
  • Three-time All-Big Six (1935-37)
  • First-Team All-Big Six (1937)
  • Set season scoring record with 215 points (1937)
  • Ended career as ISU’s all-time leading scorer with 490 points
  • Member of ISU’s Big Six Champion team (1935)
  • One of 15 players on ISU’s All-Century Team (2008)
Jason Knutzon (1995-99) – Men’s Golf

·Competed in four NCAA postseason tournaments (1995, 1996, 1997, 1999)
·First-Team All-Big 12 (1997)
·Set single-season stroke average mark in in 1996-97 (72.71), a record that stood for 11 years
·Posted eight top-10 finishes in 1996-97, tying for first in school history
·Won three tournaments and was runner-up five times in his Cyclone career
·Posted 18 career top-10 finishes in school history, tying for second in the ISU record book
·Competed in the U.S. Amateur (1998)
·Won two professional events on the Asian Tour (2004 Macau Open, 2007 Motorola International)
·Accumulated over $2 million in career earnings on the Asia and European Tour
·Only Cyclone to compete in both the U.S. Open (2003) and British Open (2011)

Barnaba Korir (1985-88) – Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country

·Three-time All-American (1987-88)
·Six-time Big Eight champion (1987-88)
·Placed fifth in the 5,000-meters at the 1987 NCAA Outdoor meet
·Won three titles at 1988 Big Eight Indoor Championship
·Most Outstanding Athlete at the 1988 Big Eight Indoor meet
·Won 1987 and 1988 Big Eight Cross Country titles
·Member of six Big Eight champion teams

Seneca Wallace (2001-02) – Football

·Two-time All-Big 12 selection (2001, 2002)
·Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year (2001)
·One of five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (2002)
·Independence Bowl Offensive MVP (2001)
·Iowa State season record-holder in passing yards (3,245 in 2002)
·Iowa State game record-holder in completion pct. (22-24, 91.7%)
·Iowa State Male Athlete of the Year (2003)
·Played eight seasons in the NFL, starting 22 games at QB (2005-13)

Don Wengert (1989-92) - Baseball

·Two-time All-Big Eight pitcher (1991-92)
·Most career wins in Iowa State history (22)
·Second-most career strikeouts in Iowa State history (190)
·Tossed seven complete games in 1991, ranking 2nd in Iowa State history
·Fourth round pick in MLB Draft (1992)
·Played seven years in MLB (1995-2001)
·Had 25 starts and seven wins for the Oakland A’s in 1996
