As it turns out, Butler County (Kan.) JUCO WR Darren Wilson wasn't the only unconventional official visitor on Iowa State's campus this past weekend. The coaching staff also hosted late-qualifying JUCO offensive lineman Mose Jeffery out of Kilgore College in Texas. Jeffery was all set to return to Kilgore for the 2019 season before late word came from the NCAA Clearinghouse that he would be able to get out this spring. Lead recruiter Alex Golesh literally was "Johnny on the spot", as he was in the Kilgore head coach's office when word came down on Jeffery's status.
The 6-foot-3, 330-pound Jeffery took an official visit to Iowa State last weekend and was offered during his time in Ames. He tells me that he has already given the coaching staff a commitment, but both sides are waiting for final word on his transcripts before announcing anything publicly. Jeffery said he will have to sit out the 2019 season due to academics, but will be able to get up to speed with the strength and conditioning rigors at Iowa State as opposed to returning to Kilgore for his sophomore season. Jeffery would then have three years to play three starting in 2020.
I'll have more on Jeffery's rapidly-evolving recruitment by the Cyclones over the next day or so.
