A three-star offensive lineman from the state of Florida is starting to talk favorites and official visits, and says Iowa State is very much in play for him at this point.
Tampa Jefferson rising senior Jean Marcellus says the recruiting process is going very well with the Cyclones and that's in large part due to the work of coach Tom Manning.
"I'm building a good relationship with the coaches," said Marcellus. "I really like the offensive line coach that's over there. I think I can really bond with him and I really like his coaching style, from what I've heard from him. They really need a new group of offensive linemen and he thinks I can impact the team. He's showing me a lot of love."
The 6-foot-4, 298-pound Marcellus says that Manning likes what he brings to the table on the field as a versatile player.
"He likes my aggressiveness and that I'm really good in pass protection," Marcellus said. "I can protect the quarterback's blindset as a tackle and can also play any other position on the offensive line."
Although Marcellus has yet to make it to the Cyclones' campus for a visit, he has had a chance to meet and work in front of some of their coaches at the Sound Mind/Sound Body camp and was seen during the spring evaluation period.
"Over the spring they saw me a lot and then they got to work with me at the camp in Tampa," Marcellus said. "I worked in front of a couple Iowa State coaches at that camp and they said I have great work ethic and that I could really fit into their offense."
Marcellus said he is nearing the release of his list of favorites, which will dictate the visits he takes during the upcoming season.
"Iowa State really wants to get me on campus and I'm trying to see if I can take a visit up there in the fall," he said. "I'm going to announce my top list pretty soon and during the fall I'll be visiting those schools. Iowa State will be included in that mix."
In addition to ISU, Marcellus has Power-5 offers from Georgia, Indiana, Louisville, Miami (Fla.) Mississippi State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
