Although it most likely won’t happen this summer, Iowa State could get a visit from a 2017 four-star forward from Virginia.

Aamir Simms of Palmyra (Va.) Blue Ridge School is a 6-foot-8, 215-pound prospect ranked as the No. 104 player in the country in the Rivals150. Simms took part in the NBPA Top 100 event in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend. Before he departed for that, he talked one-on-one with us at CycloneReport.com.

“Iowa State is most definitely one of the schools showing the most interest,” Simms said. “I talk to both Coach Berry and Coach Prohm. I have a good relationship with both and we text every day or every other day or so.”

Simms is hearing from a number of high major schools in addition to ISU with Georgia, Notre Dame, Pitt, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Georgetown and Xavier in the mix along with others.

Although he is still learning about the Cyclone program, Simms is intrigued by the idea of experiencing college in a new part of the country for him.

“It’s out west country,” Simms said about Iowa State. “Being from like the city, moving out in the country could be good for me. Most of the schools recruiting me are from the part of the country I am familiar with, so Iowa State is a little different. It’s a prestigious basketball program with what they accomplished with (Georges) Niang and those guys.”

Simms said if he is going to see I-State and Ames in person, it won’t happen until the fall.

“Most likely I would do an official there,” said Simms. “I’m not going to be able to like drive out there on my own.”

Simms will play with Team Loaded in the upcoming AAU season, what he called the “best program in the country.” He said he does not have a definite timeline for making a decision, but will probably be closer to making a call after July.

“I thought I would do it after the school year, but I am still thinking it through,” Simms said. “I am just enjoying the process.”

Simms said college coaches project him to play either as a 3 or 4 at the next level.

“Some coaches say I’m a stretch four,” Simms explained. “I can play both inside or outside so it just up to them how they would use me, inside out or outside in.”

Rivals.com has Simms listed as a power forward.
