A Class of 2021 offensive lineman from Michigan caught Iowa State’s eye during a camp down in Missouri, picking up an offer during the process.
Belleville rising junior Ramier Lewis said he performed well in the Lindenwood Mega Camp last month and the Cyclones accelerated their pursuit of him.
“They like how I take my time and think about stuff before I do it,” said Lewis. “Iowa State’s recruiting coach really liked me down at Lindenwood and was really impressed with my footwork as an offensive lineman. He wanted me to come down for a camp, but I couldn’t make it.
“He told me that they’re building and trying to make a chance. They’re trying to make it a better program than how it was before. I think they’re a hard-working program, but also keep the fun in football. It’s really exciting to me.”
Since being offered by one ISU coach, the 6-foot-7, 330-pound Lewis has been in contact with area recruiter D.K. McDonald. The prospect said he’s trying to make his way to Ames in the coming weeks.
“Things are looking good and I’m talking to a coach down there to see if I can make a visit later this month or next month,” Lewis said. “He’s not sure when would work yet. I’m still waiting on that info to come back. This would be my first trip down there. I want to see how the coaches treat their players; that’s all I care about. Do they take care of their players?”
Lewis also has Power-5 offers from Kansas and Michigan to go along with a G5 one from Kent State. Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi State and Pittsburgh are also showing interest.
The Cyclones have had a presence at Belleville High School in recent years and have also offered three of Lewis’ teammates, Coleon Smith, Jamari Buddin and Ronald Jackson.
“They talk to some of the coaches, too,” Lewis said. “We’re trying to work out something for all of us to come down there.”
