A prep defensive end from the southeast continues to hear a lot from Iowa State and is beginning to think about official visits for later this year.
Largo (Fla.) Class of 2017 two-star Bobby Roundtree has collected several Power-5 offers throughout the recruiting process, including I-State, Boston College, California, Indiana, Kansas State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Vanderbilt.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Roundtree says he’s considering at least four schools for official visits. One of those is ISU.
“I’m trying to catch a game, whenever is good,” said Roundtree. “I’m talking to my head coach about getting some dates set up for my official visits. I’m looking at going to Iowa State, Indiana, Louisville and Rutgers, but that list might change.”
Roundtree was already on the Cyclones’ campus in late June for a recruiting event that included a barbecue with the team. He said the experience left a lasting impression.
“Being around the players and just seeing how everything goes when the players are away from practice was great,” Roundtree said. “The players really got after it and pushed each other in workouts. I like how everything was going up there.
“I pretty much saw everything and asked everything when I was there. Since then, I’ve seen some links to videos of what they’re doing up there and like watching the highlights on Twitter. I like it up there, it’s really nice.”
Multiple I-State coaches continue to be in touch with Roundtree, and said they like what they’ve seen of him thus far in the fall.
“Everything is going pretty good,” Roundtree said. “They’ve caught a few of my games on Hudl and like what I’m doing. They really like me and are always checking up on me. I always get texts from coaches seeing if I’m OK or have any questions about anything. I’m hearing from a couple different coaches from the staff. They say I’m number one on the board for defensive ends. They like how I play, in that I play smart, give 100 percent and try my best.”
