Iowa State recently offered a three-star Class of 2017 cornerback from the Lone Star State and hopes to line the prospect up for an official visit next month.
League City Clear Falls standout Hanif Muhammad has added an offer from the Cyclones and likes what the program is looking for at his position.
“My recruiting coach handles all my recruitment, but I’ve been direct-messaging a coach from Iowa State for a little while now,” said Muhammad. “What really took so long for them to offer me was they wanted to see more film. They really liked what they saw this season, especially my nose for the ball and strength to force fumbles. He said Iowa State needs cornerbacks like me, since I have played lock-down corner in high school.”
The 6-foot-0, 175-pound Muhammad said he’s done a little research on the I-State program and is anxious to see more first-hand.
“What’s really sold me a lot is their tradition,” Muhammad said. “They said once you come to Iowa State, you’ll find yourself amongst good people with your peers and people my age. He said there’s nothing like Iowa State.”
Then there is the connection with Cyclone sophomore Cole Anderson, who is an alum of Clear Falls. Muhammad said he has been encouraged to see his former teammate getting playing time early in his career.
“It says a lot,” Muhammad said. “If I can see one of my old peers playing for them, I know I have a good chance of playing myself at a big-time level as Iowa State is. It gave me some courage for it, some motivation to actually want to sign with Iowa State. Iowa State is by far in my top-three right now, just because of the atmosphere and level of competition.”
Muhammad added that Nebraska and Kansas State are the other programs in his top-three and that he has no order at this point.
Next up for the senior is to schedule official visits to the programs in the running.
“I will be setting those up next month,” Muhammad said. “It will be a good time of year. My father and I will definitely see to it that Iowa State gets one of my visits. I’ll be getting in touch with the Cornerbacks coach soon to set all that up. My recruiter and Coach (D.K.) McDonald have been in contact a lot lately.”
In addition to the ones he’s received from ISU, Kansas State and Nebraska, Muhammad also has Power-5 offers from Illinois, UCLA and Washington State.
