I just learned something about Purdy's recruitment that I don't recall ever being mentioned before. Apparently, on his visit to Alabama, he was less than impressed with Saban. Saban sat down with him and immediately started picking apart his game. Saban said (paraphrasing here), "You're short, your arm strength is ehhh, and your accuracy is average."
After hearing the last part especially, Purdy was convinced that Saban didn't know who he was and that he had never watched his film. Purdy always prided himself on his accuracy. He thought it was the best weapon in his arsenal, but Saban called it average.
He went back to his high school coach after the visit and discussed the conversation with his coach and shortly after that, announced his commitment to Iowa State. So thank you, Saban, for not doing your homework because, after all, this is just a lowly three star recruit you've been forced to talk to.
