Was in parking garage at Marriott with my 2 boys wearing ISU gear. Met a guy and his son in Baylor gear. The guy commented on how many ISU fans were in town. He's been to Big XII before but said it just really hit him this year how well ISU fans fanatically support the team. He compared us to Kentucky fans and said we got to be in the top 5 in the nation for fan support. Then he tells me he is Scott Drew's best friend. Said he couldn't believe Bryce Drew at Valpo turned down the ISU job last year. Said ISU called about 10 pm and he turned them down. ISU called Prohm right after that. He didn't know why Drew would turn us down. Said he would have been more of a defensive coach. He thought ISU would have been a great fit for Drew with his main recruiting base in Chicago. Then commented that maybe Drew knew what he was doing as we don't have much coming back next year. This Baylor guy still thought the ISU job is one of the best in the country due to fan support. He was very disappointed in the fan support at Baylor only getting 3000 for games. He said he is from Indiana so is used great fan support. I found the conversation interesting as we generally don't get to hear much about the hiring process. FWIW this guy seemed legit and don't know why he would make this up.
