A pair of Indianapolis (Ind.) high school teammates traveled to Iowa State for an unofficial visit that included the ISU spring game. And for one of them at least, the trip was a real eye opener.
Ben Davis H.S. defensive lineman LeShaun Minor made the trek from Central Indiana to Central Iowa along with teammate Esezi Otomoweo. Minor said after an overnight stop in the Quad Cities, the pair made their way onto Ames for Saturday’s spring game.
“We drove down Friday and stopped in Davenport and slept in a hotel, then we got up the next morning and went the rest of the way,” Minor said. “We got there and ate and then there was a presentation and then we went to the game.”
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Minor said he paid close attention to the Cyclone defensive line while watching the spring game.
“The defense was really good overall,” said Minor. “I liked how the defensive line fired off the ball, used their hands and had good footwork. They got to the quarterback quite a bit.”
After driving straight through to home on Saturday night, Minor said Sunday that the visit changed his perspective on Iowa State.
“I liked the atmosphere, the community, the fan base,” Minor explained. “The coaches care about their players’ education. After the Iowa State visit, it really opened my eyes to what Iowa State actually has to offer and about their coaches.”
Minor said that post-ISU visit, Indiana and Iowa State are his top two schools. He has visited the home state Hoosiers before and was most familiar with the IU program until the Iowa State offer “came out of nowhere” in January.
According to Minor, Iowa State defensive line coach Eli Rasheed has been the recruiting point man on him.
Illinois and Minnesota of the Big 10 have offered Minor and he said he plans to visit Minnesota sometime this summer. A number of Group of 5 schools have offered as well. Minor said he is undecided on a decision timeline.
