Covid-19's potential impact on football has been widely discussed. But what are the implications on the other sports? Particularly the indoor sports. Let's assume we pull off football with the attendance limitations currently in place for this discussion.
I would imagine volleyball can be played, but there may need to be some decisions regarding fans. Since we play in a large venue at Iowa State, we may not need to limit fans beyond what we typically get for attendance at a normal match. We could pull down that curtain and spread people out and into the upper deck if necessary. I suspect masks would be required.
Men's basketball could be played, but it may be in front of far fewer fans. And masks would likely be required. Season ticket sales limited to higher donors and students first. Johnny's for Court Cyd seats only. Maybe move the others to Scheman and eliminate Stage Door.
Women's basketball is the same as men's basketball. Masks. Spacing. Attendance limits may result in fewer seats than typical, but most season ticket holders would be honored.
Wrestling would be similar from a fan's perspective. Spread them out. Require masks. Limits to roughly is typical attendance for wrestling anyway. Maybe some in-season tournaments need to be limited to minimize the risk of exposure. That would be unfortunate, but the national tournament is the ultimate goal. Hard to imagine now a national tournament with out attendance restrictions.
Gymnastics. Tickets required to enter, and limited. Masks. Spacing.
So after going through this sport-by-sport, it seems a little redundant. Maybe you could rope off or remove seats in advance for all sports held at Hilton in groups of two or four, or a combination of both. Attendance would be limited to that reduced number. Masks required.
