I am not sure about CPR. Some days I want his head, some days I think "if he only gets a break once"....
But I look at this team and I really don't think we are THAT bad. Our offense isn't really in shambles.... we have good WRs... good running backs.... serviceable OL.... and a struggling QB. We have seen SR look spectacular.... against average/terrible teams. When he faces good competition, or HAS to make a play, he folds. I can't count how many times I have turned to my 9 year old when ISU is facing 3rd and 10 and said "Here comes a sack". He thinks I'm a prophet.
Consider this......... if Sam doesn't throw 3 interceptions and instead we score on those possessions... and TT doesn't get the ball and score... it could have been a 10-14 point game pretty easily instead of a blow out. The pick in the Iowa game sealed our loss. The sack on 4th and whatever on the last play vs Toledo was inconceivable. The guy just simply doesn't produce when it counts. Plus, if we had a gun-slinging fearless QB I think Mangino would have a hay-day with him.
Our Defense looked bad against a great offense.... which I think mostly had to do with game-planning. But we HAVE players on defense. Our DL is better than what we are used to. We have a decent secondary and serviceable LB. We aren't a stone wall defense, but if we can score SOME points we can win.
I really think that we are one good QB away from turning the corner. Unfortunately I don't see that QB on our roster anywhere, so it might be a while.
I know it sounds harsh to call-out Sam like that, but IMO D1 football is not about not hurting someone's feelings.
