I am 62 years old and a lifelong Iowa State fan. I want to see a national championship for Iowa State in basketball or football before I turn to dust. I have had that on my bucket list before Fred was here and before I even knew what a bucket list was. In a few short years, Fred Hoiberg has brought more to Iowa State than I thought possible. A national championship is not just a dream, it's a real possibility. If Fred left us now, I think I would cry. I am generally an optimist, but being an Iowa State fan would feel so empty if Fred left, like it is never going happen for us. What bothers me about that is, although he would leave the program in better shape than it was when he got here, the psyche of the Iowa State fanbase would never be so low. Its one thing to be bad, but have hope to get better. It's another to be so close to great and let it get away.
