well besides the fact that, no i didnt know that till recently, makes me ask the question: "well why the hell would you hire him then?"
If a guy comes to me in my firm and says 'yes, i'd really love to work here to i can get a job at this other company in 5 years'. well... thanks for your time and no, we wont be meeting again.
but as always, its more complicated than that isnt it? you can believe me or not, but LE was the guy they were seriously thinking of rehiring till they hired hoiberg.
So, the question is almost two pronged: knowing what you know now.
a)would you still have hired hoiberg and...
b)the unknowable...would you have rather hired LE or (insert your name here) that we hypothetically were positive would retire a clone
I'll admit, im extremely torn on this right now because of the location on my body that this wound is currently hurting.
but i'd have to say yes, i'd have jp do it again. and not because fred was going to bring us conf championships (0) and deep tournament runs (1 sweet 16)... but the fact of the matter is that for a few years now we've had even arguably greater riches, and that is the word "Relevant"
Even though LE brought us bigger highs, fred got us 'in the discussion' ...a lot. We were known before..sure...from time to time. but now we're really known...each year. the right people are starting to hate us and i have cut in half the number of people that have mentioned potatos, or the buckeys when i tell them im from iowa state
People now know we are very serious about our basketball at Iowa st. hell, even my tucky and NC fan friends were giving us props the day we had Game Day.
But, and thats one huge ass 'but'... relevancy has a shelf life. we aint duke yet. if next years team tanks, we may have ourselves back to the problem we had before we hired coach dream job.
I'll kind of leave it at that and like to hear some thoughts that dont devolve into 'your sister is fat' by like post number 8
