Just got done watching the Washington-Cal game, which was delayed forever by lightning. With just over a minute left and trailing by two points, Cal completes a 27 yard pass to set up 1st and goal at the Washington 3 yard line. Washington, despite having three timeouts, let the clock tick all the way down to 44 seconds left before Cal called timeout to set up a play. The Bears then proceeded to run three plays on offense and nail a 17 yard game winning field goal.
If you're the Washington coaches, why wouldn't you just let Cal score a TD? It's far more likely that you're going to go down the field and score with a minute and three timeouts at your disposal than it is that the Cal kicker is going to miss a field goal of under 20 yards.
