Hannibal (Mo.) offensive lineman Dylan Powell kicked off a busy stretch of three official visits on consecutive January weekends when he and his family made the four-plus hour drive up to Ames, Iowa, this weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound former Purdue commit met up with friends and fellow visitors Trystan Castillo (Missouri commit) and Luke Campbell (Purdue commit) on the trip. Powell said getting to share the official visit experience with friends was great.

“It all came together pretty good for all of us to do it on this weekend,” Powell said. “I’ve been friends with them for a while now. I met Luke at Purdue and we’ve been friends ever since. He’d said he was interested in visiting there and decided to go this weekend, too.”

Powell said the official visit started with a meal and social time at the Sukup End Zone Club at Jack Trice Stadium on Friday night. Saturday was for meetings and tours on both the academic and football front. Powell said the strong component of the weekend for him was interacting with members of the Cyclone coaching staff.

“Being around all the coaches and getting a feel for them and seeing the passion and energy they are bringing to the program was a highlight,” said Powell. He added that most of his contact so far has been with offensive line coach Tom Manning and head coach Matt Campbell with the visiting giving him an opportunity to meet other coaches, too.

Senior offensive lineman Nick Fett, who recently went from walk-on to scholarship player, served as Powell’s host on the trip and took him out to see Ames on Friday and Saturday nights.

Next up for Powell is a Jan. 22 weekend visit to Virginia Tech, followed by Georgia Tech or Stanford on the last weekend before National Signing Day.
