One of the highest-rated prospects on Iowa State's recruiting board, regardless of position, is a tight end from an Oklahoma high school powerhouse. The three-star recruit was on campus over the weekend for the first time on an unofficial visit.
Jenks rising senior Reese Leitao said he specifically enjoyed his time with lead recruiter Alex Golesh and Cyclone head coach Matt Campbell.
"I thought what really stood out to me was the coaching," said Leitao. "Coach Campbell and Coach Golesh made a great impression on me and my father. They explained some things in more depth.
"They're really good people and good coaches, they support you, and that really stood out to me. (My father and I) had a long meeting with Coach Campbell and I sat down and watched a little film with Coach Golesh. It's finding out more details and more information overall on Iowa State.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Leitao, who also has Power-5 offers from the likes of Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Purdue, said his visit with Campbell to wrap things up on Saturday left a lasting impression.
"Coach Campbell just laid things out to me on what Iowa State's all about and what they have coming up in the future," Leitao said. "We're going to continue our relationship and press on. I still have my options open, but Iowa State is a really good choice for me."
Coming off of his initial trip to I-State, Leitao said the program made a jump based on what he saw during his trip.
"I think of them a little higher now, because I finally got to meet up with Coach Campbell face to face," Leitao said. "Me and Coach Golesh have long had a good relationship. Just being there and being in Ames just changed my perspective. I loved being up there."
While it was the coaches that ultimately sold him on the place, Leitao said he also had a good conversation with an incoming freshman tight end that was just as highly recruited in the 2016 class.
"I got to meet Chase Allen, who is their 2016 guy coming in at tight end," Leitao said. "He was a really good prospect coming out of is a really good football player. We met up and talked for a little bit. He told me it is a good school and how much he's liked it since he arrived on campus."
Leitao said he's still working on making a late-summer commitment.
"It will probably be right before the season starts off that I will choose," he said.
