An in-state defensive lineman for 2017 is formulating a plan of attack for a busy summer that will take him to a number of college campuses, including Iowa State.

Cyclone assistant coach Tyson Veidt was in Van Meter (Iowa) on May 23 for an in-school visit that included observing Dylan Boles in the Bulldogs’ weight room. Boles is a 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect and he said he’s gotten positive feedback from ISU in terms of his placement on their junior recruiting board.

“Coach Veidt said I was the first Iowa kid they wanted to see after they got off of the road,” Boles said. “They say I'm flexible and have good balance and rated high due to my academic standing and character. Ultimately, they want me to come to camp to earn an offer. I'm still figuring that out, as we'll be traveling in between the Stanford and Ivy League camps. It'll most likely be the (Iowa State) camp on the 20th.”

Boles said Stanford has offered him a preferred walk-on spot already and will likely not be able to do any more than that due to limited scholarships. Northwestern has also extended a preferred walk-on opportunity.

Two Ivy League schools – Columbia and Dartmouth – have made a financial aid offer to Boles, he said, and Princeton has invited him to camp for further evaluation. Brown University is also recruiting Boles.

Closer to home, both Iowa and UNI made school visits to Van Meter as well and Division II powerhouse Northwest Missouri State has made it clear Boles has a place in its program if he wants it.

Boles previously said that FCS Lamar had offered. And Washington of the Pac 12 is also showing interest.

Boles is the son of former Iowa State player Matt Boles and the older brother of 2018 prospect Sean Boles.
