Iowa State already got a commitment from one Class of 2017 three-star recruit from a Michigan high school, and will take its shot at getting a four-star athlete from the same program when the duo visits next weekend.

Orchard Lake St. Mary's athlete Kahlee Hamler - a.k.a. K.J. - will be on campus next Friday along with Cyclone cornerback commit Richard Bowens. The 5-foot-9, 152-pound Hamler is getting the full-court press from Iowa State coaches in advance of his trip to Ames.

"I talk to Iowa State about every day," said Hamler, a four-star recruit that's ranked 45th at his position nationally. "I'm actually taking a visit down there on June 24th with my friend Richard. I'm staying the night down there and coming back the next day.

"I keep in contact with the coaches a lot. I hear from everybody. They want me on both sides of the ball, so I'm not sure where I'll end up. They want me to play my freshman year. They said I can play out at slot or wide out as a receiver. I can also make an impact on special teams as a kick returner and punt returner."

I-State isn't the only Power-5 program with big plans for Hamler. In addition to the Cyclones, he claims P5 offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

I-State envisions Hamler playing a key role on the team, he said.

"They say I'm like lightning in a bottle and am very explosive," Hamler said. "They said they don't have anyone on the team that brings what I do. They need a guy like me and need a playmaker. They said I can make big plays and win some games for them."

In addition to keeping in touch with Hamler on a daily basis, ISU coaches have sold him on immediate playing time if he signs with the program next February.

"They want to make me a freshman All-American and said I can play right away," he said. "I have a lot of schools on my hands, so it's hard right now. But Iowa State is one of them that sticks out."

Hamler said he plans to narrow down his list of schools later in the summer.
