Minnesota won its first MBB conference game last night at Ohio State. 1-4 in conference and had a couple of horrible non-conf losses. The overriding theme up here is “give Ben Johnson time - you can’t turn around a hoops program quickly…” like CTJO, he’s in year 2.
I tell Gopher fans who say this that we went from TWO wins to 22 wins and Sweet 16 in new coach’s first season - and we’re rated Top 15 and 4-0 in the best hoops conference in the country in year 2 with a bunch of no-name dawgs.
Every time I make this case - Gophers fans get this “oh shit” look on their face about Gopher coach Ben Johnson. 😁
All that being said, I still shake my head at what Clone hoops has done to date under TJ in 1 1/2 seasons. It damn near defies logic. Is our coach THAT good at talent assessment + defensive scheme + player execution/motivation? Why didn’t it happen as much at SDSU/UNLV?
