This was kind of a back to reality game, for me. 3-0 got me a little out over my fan skis. I forgot how inexperienced we were at key positions, particularly QB, RB, OT and TE on on offense and LB and Safety on defense. Having said that, my frustration with play calling on offense is palpable.
Play calling, of course is a bit of a fool's errand, since it is dependent on player execution by both offensive and defensive players. But it is obvious that we are unimaginative or predictable.
Maybe the dumbest call was the Dekkers run when we were making the longshot run at the end. We got a first down inside the 10. And he calls a QB keeper. Why? The clock is the biggest enemy at the time. Everyone was just wtf. Then the pass choices (and execution) on 2nd and 3rd downs was truly a head scratcher.
Why have we forgotten about the TE's? No Kolar out there, but to go from overuse to limited use is a head scratcher. And if you aren't going to use them in the passing game, find the best reserve OT and put an eligible number and add a blocker.
It seems that we just try a bit of everything, hoping something works. I am frustrated and probably overstating it, but when a half dozen nobodies can sit at the 30 yard line and call our plays with 60% accuracy when we see the formation, it is not hard to imagine a professional DC having a field day.
Just a disappointing day.
And the calls by the stripes were so one-sided.
