As an novice in how recruiting is determined I thought why not throw this out and see what the real scoop from all the experts on this site.
First of all I was wondering how much effort was given to trying to recruit some of the Midwestern i.e. road graders in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois Minnesota, Nebraska and Missouri. There certainly seems to be some talent in these states. Would this approach better serve our recruiting budget by hitting these states harder being shorter distances to travel and it would also be easier for relatives to visit on game days.
Then concentrate on the blue chip athletes at the other positions where speed and athletic ability would be needed. Recruit the skill positions in the states listed above for the players in the skill positions.
It seems it would be easier to get prospects to visit campus if mileage was not such long distances.
Kind of rambling but just curious.
