A 2017 four-star athlete that visited Iowa State this weekend is headed back home today and has the Cyclones on an elite tier among the schools that have offered him.
Kam’Ron White of Clinton (Miss.) said that ISU and Tennessee are the two schools standing out the most for him on the heels of his time in Ames. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound White also has offers from Ole Miss and Mississippi State from the SEC, along with the likes of Southern Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette and South Alabama from Group of 5 schools.
White is ranked as the No. 26 athlete in the country according to Rivals.com, in addition to being the No. 4 prospect in the state of Mississippi.
Different schools have White pegged to play different positions at the next level. For Iowa State, it’s the defensive backfield.
“Iowa State wants me to play safety or corner,” White said. “I like that the coaches tell me their plan and how they have it mapped out to win there. And they have a plan for what they want me to come in and do.”
Like many prospects heavily involved with Iowa State, White used the term “family-oriented” when he described why ISU has climbed high on his list of favorite schools. And White had his family – mom, dad and younger brother – with him for the Friday and Saturday visit to Ames.
White said he has “no idea” when it comes to additional visits he plans to take this spring or summer. He said his timeline is to make a decision somewhere around the beginning to the middle of his senior high school season.
Iowa State safeties coach and defensive coordinator Jon Heacock has been the lead recruiter talking to White, he said. White also mentioned that ISU’s assistant director of scouting Mark Thurston has been involved in coordinating communication with him as well.
