Iowa State senior defensive end Dale Pierson has been added to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, an award given annually to the nation’s best collegiate lineman.

The Rotary Club of Houston initiated the award in 1970 in honor of legendary coach Vince Lombardi.

Pierson, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., has been outstanding in Iowa State’s first five games, leading the team in sacks (6.0) and tackles for loss (8.0). In the season-opener vs. UNI, Pierson recorded three sacks, the most by a Cyclone since 2005.

Pierson ranks sixth nationally in sacks per game (1.2) and is 17th in the nation in tackles for loss per game at 1.6. He also leads all ISU down linemen in tackles (19) and has one interception.
