The Iowa State football team held its annual awards banquet Monday night, as head coach Paul Rhoads handed out this season's honors to the members of the team.
Senior tight end E.J. Bibbs was given the Pete Taylor Award as the team's most valuable player.
The first-team All-Big 12 selection was one of the nation's best tight ends in 2014. The John Mackey Award semifinalist led all "power five" conference tight ends in touchdowns (8) and was second in catches per game (4.5). His eight TD catches tied for the fourth-best single-season total in school history.
A native Chicago, Ill., Bibbs finished his senior campaign with 45 catches, the second-best season total by an ISU tight end in school history, despite missing two games with injuries. He was invited to participate in the Senior Bowl and tested out at the NFL Combine in February.
Junior quarterback Sam Richardson took home the Ray Scott Outstanding Offensive Skill Player Award. Richardson ranked 13th nationally in completions per game (23.1) in 2014, breaking ISU's single-season completion record at 254. Richardson threw for 2,669 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2014, recording the top-two single-game completion marks in school history: Toledo (37) and Texas (36). His 3,090 yards of total offense last season ranks third all-time among ISU signal callers.
Freshman safety Kamari Cotton-Moya won the Al & Dean Knudson Outstanding Defensive Skill Player Award. The FWAA Freshman All-American and Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year had an outstanding rookie season for the Cyclones in 2014, leading the team in tackles (77) and ranking third in pass breakups (8).
The Dury Moss Outstanding Newcomer Award went to freshman wide receiver Allen Lazard.
Lazard recorded one of the finest rookie seasons by a Cyclone receiver in school history in 2014, ranking second on the team in receptions (45) and receiving yards (593). He was the only Cyclone to catch a pass in all 12 games last season.
Senior All-Big 12 performers Cory Morrissey and Tom Farniok were awarded ISU's top defensive and offensive lineman, respectively, for the second consecutive season. Morrissey led all ISU down linemen in tackles with 51 and had a team-high 6.0 sacks, tying for the 10th-best total on ISU's single-season record chart. Farniok, a four-year starter at center, was a Rimington Award watch list member. He ended his career with 47 starts.
