It appears to be down to three schools for an offensive playmaker from the Florida high school ranks, who is set for a trio of official visits later this month. One of those stops will be to Iowa State.

Once head coach Matt Campbell took over control of the Cyclone program, it didn’t take him long to reach out to Daytona Beach Mainland’s Adrian Killins. I-State offered and was in-home with the 5-foot-9, 168-pound running back back on December 9th.

“Things are going very well,” said Killins, who has scheduled a visit for the weekend of January 22nd. “I talked to Coach Campbell on the phone (Monday) night and he expects to make some big changes. They’re looking for that impact player to get the ball in his hands and make plays.

“He’s trying to do what he did at Toledo, but be even better at Iowa State because of the Big 12 that they’re in. He’s a great coach and is the youngest coach in college football, so he brings a lot of passion to the team and game. He wants to accomplish big things. He’s got a lot of Florida kids that have committed already.”

Despite missing three games this past season, Killins racked up 1,118 total yards — 943 rushing and 175 receiving. As a junior, he rushed for 1,173 yards and 14 touchdowns on 162 carries, while catching 17 passes for 187 yards and three scores.

Also a standout track athlete, Killins was a 200-meter state champion last year and narrowly missed winning the 100-meter event. His personal-bests are 10.53 in the 100m and 21.05 in the 200m.

Killins, who would like to become a two-sport athlete at the next level, said he will be looking at a number of factors around the ISU program while he’s on campus.

“Just the environment around the school, where it’s at and what Iowa State brings to me from an academic standpoint,” Killins said. “I’m going to sit down with the academic advisors, football coaches and track coaches. I’m excited to see how the campus looks, because I’ve heard it’s a beautiful place that has a lot to offer.”

A soft commit to Central Florida since early December, Killins will be in Orlando for an official visit the weekend of January 15th. After making a stop at I-State the following weekend, he will be at Temple on January 29th.

“I still have options I’m looking towards, but after my official visits are done I’ll know what I’m going to do,” he said.
