The following link has a lot of historical information relative to the history of FBS v FCS matchups. My basic takeaway from this is that major programs in the power 5 conference who lose to an FCS opponent almost invariably are bad - the number of teams with a winning record from the power 5 that lose to an FCS team is probably no more than a handful since 1978 (in 2013, eg, Oregon State (with a 6-6 reg season record) and KSU (with a 7-5 season record) (both teams won their bowl) lost to an FCS opponent but these "good team losses" are largely an aberration. By my count, from 1978 through 2013, 31 of the 65 power 5 teams lost a total of 74 times (about 2 per year) with 14 of those teams having lost only once. The "teams of shame", those with 5 or more losses, are KSU, UL, Wake Forest, Oreg St., and ISU - not a murderers row of football tradition.
I absolutely reject the notion that FCS teams should be any legitimate threat to a power 5 team with hopes of winning 6 games in a season. Upsets happen, but in this case, extremely rarely.
