One of Iowa State’s top targets at the running back position in the Class of 2019 was on campus over the weekend getting his first glimpses of the football program.

Wichita (Kan.) Northwest junior Breece Hall, who is just a two-star recruit by Rivals despite having Power-5 offers from the likes of ISU, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska and TCU, said he enjoyed all aspects of his trip to Ames.

“We started off and I met all the coaches,” said Hall. “I really like the staff, because they’re really young. I really like Coach (Matt) Campbell. He introduced himself and the staff, and then we went into our position meetings. I went with Coach (Nate) Scheelhaase to their running back room and we watched some film. We compared their offense to the offense I run now in high school. We run some of the same things.

“After that, we went to the weight room to look at the facility. Their weight training staff explained some of the things they do. There were a few things we haven’t seen before. They had a few unique workout machines there. Their facility was really nice and I liked it. We also went with the training staff for a little while.

“We went on a campus tour. Coach Mouser drove me and my parents around on the tour. We went all around the campus and he took us around Ames a little bit. I really like the city and it’s nice. It’s a small college town, which is what I really liked about it. Everyone is really friendly. We went to some of the dorms the players stay in and they welcomed us with open arms.

“We finished by going into the stadium and the locker rooms. Then we went into the south end zone addition to eat with Coach Campbell and some of the other recruits.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Hall, who led all of Class 6A in rushing this past season and has more than 2,000 yards and 32 touchdowns during his high school career, collected his first offer from the Cyclones in late 2017.

The playmaker said the staff likes his durability at the position and ability to remain on the field in different situations.

“They said they really like me and know I’m a three-down back,” Hall said. “I’m not a back that has to come off the field. When they started the film (during my visit), they’d show one of my highlights and then they’d show one of their offensive highlights. Our offenses are similar and we run some of the same plays. It just showed the comparison of our offenses. They compared me to some of the current running backs. Coach Nate and Coach Campbell think I could come in as a freshman and contribute to the team.”

With so many P5 programs increasing their interest in Hall, the running back said this visit to the place that offered him first was a big one.

“It was much bigger than I thought,” he said. “Coach Campbell, I really like him as a coach and person. He cares about his players as people not just as players. He’s a really nice guy. I feel like Iowa State is really high with me right now and one of my top schools. They really impressed me this weekend.”

Hall said he’s already planning a return visit to ISU during spring ball.
