During a game-day visit to Iowa State last weekend, an in-state quarterback prospect picked up an offer during a meeting with head coach Matt Campbell.

Council Bluffs Lewis Central Class of 2019 quarterback Max Duggan took in the Texas Tech game along with his parents. It was his second unofficial visit of the fall to Ames, as he was also on hand for the Kansas State game.

“I went to the game and we got to tour the facilities, weight room, indoor facility and team rooms,” said Duggan. “We went to a gathering area and then all the recruits and coaches went out for the sprit walk. We came back inside and me, my parents and Coach Moore went up to Coach (Matt) Campbell’s office.

“We talked a lot about my recruiting, their offense, how I am and that they’d like to offer me a scholarship. After that, we went downstairs and ate. All of the recruits went down to the field for pre-game and watch that, before going up to the stands to watch the game.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Duggan said he received plenty of positive feedback from the ISU head coach on why the program had decided to offer him so early in the process.

“Coach Campbell talked a lot about some of the skills that I had that go into their offense and how I’m such a great fit,” Duggan said. “He also really likes my leadership and competitiveness playing football. I was very grateful and honored to receive an offer from Iowa State. It’s a great program.”

Duggan also commented on what he likes about the Cyclone program, which is in its first year under a new coaching staff.

“The coaches up there are great,” Duggan said. “I think Coach Campbell has that program going the right way and has all of his coaches in there doing the right things. They’re doing it the right way and know what they’re doing. I’ve gone up there for two games this year and when I was on the sidelines, all the players were energized for pre-game and coaches were getting involved with them. It was a lot of fun.”

In addition to the Cyclones, Duggan also has offers from Iowa and South Dakota State.

It was a memorable sophomore season for Duggan, who led his team to the playoffs for a second-consecutive season. He completed 108-of-174 passes for 1,651 yards and 15 touchdowns to go with five interceptions. The dual-threat quarterback also rushed 114 times for 592 yards and 14 scores.

“This season our goal was to make the playoffs and we did that, so our team made a lot of strides,” Duggan said. “My teammates and coaches were helping me. I have a lot of playmakers on my team, which helps a lot. I was just doing my job and what the coaches were telling me.”
