I posted this reply in a discussion on the other forum, but when I realized it was not off topic board, thought I should move it here.

As soon as I was done with classes, I loaded up my car and headed to Cedar Rapids that Saturday. I didn't stick around for graduation. In those days graduating seniors didn't have to take finals.
I spent most of Saturday moving things into the apartment and getting organized. I finished early evening. That's when it hit me. Saturday night and I don't know anybody and had no idea about the town I had just moved to.
So I hopped in my car and just went driving. My apartment was in Marion, but I drove down First Avenue in Cedar Rapids. I didn't have any idea where I was going. Somewhere along the way I ended up on Mount Vernon Road and was quite lost. Eventually I found East Post Road and made my way back into Marion. When I got to the downtown area and was almost home, I saw a corner bar right next to the police station.
So I go in and sit at the bar where a local draws me a map on a napkin about the four quadrants of Cedar Rapids. I was feeling quite lonely when I remembered a girl I knew from college that lived in Marion. I decided to call her and she invited me out to her house as they were just getting ready to watch a movie.
She saved me when I really needed it. Sunday was busy with trips to the stores to stock up on groceries and household goods. Work started on Monday. I stayed at that job for over 40 years before retiring.
One of the reasons I started right after graduating without even going back home first, was because I figured if I took any time off before starting the job, I might change my mind.
