A versatile St. Louis (Mo.) defensive back in the 2021 class collected an Iowa State offer recently after performing well at a showcase in early June.

Trinity Catholic rising junior Tyler Hibbler, who said he’s been on the staff’s radar for a few years, shined at the Lindenwood Mega Camp on June 1st and recently earned his first Power-5 offer from the Cyclones’ area recruiter D.K. McDonald.

“They’ve talked to my coach for the most part and I’ve messaged with D.K. McDonald on Twitter,” said Hibbler. “I didn’t even know they were recruiting me. They recruited me my freshman year, but I hadn’t talked to them since then.

“Coming out of the camp, they really like me as a player, love my film and want me to be a part of the program. Coach McDonald thinks I’m a really aggressive defensive back and everyone likes that. I mostly play safety, but can also play down on the line at cornerback. I can come down and really punish somebody.”

Hibbler said he learned a lot during the camp and performed well in front of McDonald and other coaches.

“I felt like I was very patient and getting in and out of my breaks pretty fast,” he said. “One thing I do need to work on is my recovery speed. I felt like when somebody was beating me out of the break, I was taking too long to break to it. But I felt like I did pretty well pressing guys.”

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Hibbler, who also has a G5 offer from Toledo, comes from a talent-rich Trinity Catholic program that ISU has recruited heavily in recent years.

“Iowa State was the first offer for a lot of my teammates and have recruited my school hard,” Hibbler said. “They’ve told me that Coach McDonald was really cool when he came down.”

Since the Cyclones have had a long-time presence at his high school, Hibbler said he’s watched the program’s ascent in recent years and likes a defense that offers plenty of opportunities to defensive backs.

“They have a lot of energy and really play hard. When they play, it’s serious. Since they play five DBs, they definitely need a lot of DBs every year. That could be a good place for me to go. They were 8-5 last year and went to the Alamo Bowl. I like them as a school, but would like to learn more. I don’t really know a whole lot yet. I want to get up there, see the campus and meet all the coaches.”
