The Cygarin Preseason basketball ratings are noW posted.
There's really not much to say. Unlike football where there is a lot of pre-season speculation and prognostication going on with predictive power rankings etc., there just really isn't much to say or do about basketball until the ball gets rolling.
Of course, basketball has over 30 games in which most everything gets sorted out. Football, with only 12 games never really does.
For this week I used last year's Sagarin ratings. Sagarin's preseason rating are nothing more than an average of the last few years. It's not that I think that using last year's ratings are accurate, but rather that I think using last year is probably a better baseline for what's to happen the following year, than multiple years are. Regardless, Sagarin is not intending to project results with a pre-season, and neither am I.
I have included Pomeroy and the polls, for anybody interested. I will start including Massey, RPI, and RPI forecast next week.
I do think one can however, take a look at the schedule as a whole, and get a rough assessment of what lies before us.
I don't quite have the conference pages done yet. The Big-12 is easy because of the perennial round robin scheduling. It's just a matter of resetting everything. The Big-10 on the other hand is a cluster headache, as well as cluster other things.
