Now that the Cyclones have Arkansas wide receiver Josh Johnson in the fold for the Class of 2017, they would like to get at least one more prep pass catcher. Their number one target appears to be a junior from southeast Florida.
Iowa State assistant coach Bryan Gasser was in to see Palm Beach Lakes standout D’jaundrae Edwards recently, according to the receiver.
“They said I’m their number one guy and said I could come in, make an instant impact and play early,” said Edwards. “They want me to play the inside slot, returns and kickoffs and punts. The coaches said they could develop me into a better receiver and that I would really thrive in their system. I know they had a pretty good offense at Toledo and would air it out. I could definitely see myself playing there.”
I-State coaches have made quite an impression on the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Edwards, making sure the receiver knows he’s a valuable piece to its puzzle
“I know they’ve got a great coaching staff and I really like those guys,” Edwards said. “I want to get up there for a visit. We’re trying to schedule something right now. I’m hearing from all of the coaches, but probably the most from Coach (Matt) Campbell and Coach Gasser. All of them hit me up on Twitter. Coach Gasser came to see me a few days ago, and then I talked to him for a little while afterwards. He’s coming back to see me next week.”
Edwards said his goal is to take an unofficial visit over the summer, but is unsure of when.
“That’s all on Coach Gasser and Coach Campbell,” he said. “They said they were going to handle that for me and get everything situated. I’d say it will probably be over the summertime, or maybe before then. I really want to get up there for a visit to see the place and the facilities, and if it’s an environment I could see myself being in for four years.”
In addition to his one from the Cyclones, Edwards has Power-5 offers from Indiana, Kentucky, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and West Virginia.
