Perhaps the highest-rated serious target remaining on Iowa State’s 2019 wish list is a four-star offensive lineman from the Kansas City high school ranks.
Rockhurst senior Danielson Ike has visited Iowa State on multiple occasions and will be trying to slide in another trip following the conclusion of his high school team’s season.
“I’m not taking any official visits yet, because I’m still waiting for my season to end,” said Ike, who is a vital part of a Rockhurst squad that will place in the state semifinals later this week.
“I haven’t talked to Iowa State in a little while; it’s been about three weeks ago. They talked to me about everything, like how my season is going and about me coming up there for an official visit. Iowa State is still a school I’m very interested in.”
The 6-foot-6, 276-pound Ike is considered the sixth overall prospect in Missouri for 2019 and 29th offensive tackle nationally. He has secured a 5.8 Rivals rating.
Offers from prolific programs all across the country have come Ike’s way throughout the recruiting process. His list has approached 20 Division I programs, including Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford and Syracuse.
As of now, Ike sounds like a prospect that has a primary list of three schools. But he says that could change between now and the end of his senior season.
“One of them is going to be Oklahoma,” Ike said of his visit list. “I just got off the phone with (an assistant) coach. Another one is going to be Michigan.”
The big man has already been to Ames for unofficial visits on multiple occasions, with the most recent coming just prior to his 2018 season.
Ike said he’s been encouraged by what he’s seen of the Cyclones this fall.
“I’ve been following their season,” he said. “I’ve always said the same thing: that team is on the rise. They’ve had a pretty tough schedule. They’re in the top 25 and that shows a lot about them. Iowa State has always been one of my favorite schools. I think the offensive line has been pretty good for the most part.”
He also continues to be impressed with the man at the helm of the program, Matt Campbell.
“It’s always good to know the head coach plans on being there for a while,” Ike said. “I think he’s a great head coach. He’s the kind of coach that people would like to work with and work under. That makes it so much better.”
A native of Nigeria, Ike is still relatively new to the game of football and said he’s continued to take major steps in the right direction as a senior.
“I believe I’ve improved in everything I set out to do this season,” he said. “I’ve talked to some of the coaches that are recruiting me and they said they’ve seen my film last year and this year. They see me making improvements in everything I’m doing and growing into the game. They like what they see.”
