One Class of 2018 recruit in the state of Ohio has been on the Cyclone coaching staff’s radar for a while now, and says he’s starting to hear more from a certain assistant.
Columbus St. Francis DeSales standout junior Brian Asamoah already has an offer from the Cyclones and likes what he’s hearing about the program.
“Things are going great right now,” said Asamoah. “I’m hearing from Coach (Tyson) Veidt a lot. He stays in touch with me and I think that’s pretty awesome for a coach like him that’s really busy to take the time to connect with me. I don’t know if I’m their main priority right now, but I’m assuming I’m right up there because Iowa State has really been recruiting me hard.”
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Asamoah has taken on a starring role as a running back and linebacker this season, but said he’d likely play a defensive role for the Cyclones.
“They said I could be a great fit in their defense,” Asamoah said. “They’d like me to come in and play outside linebacker.”
Asamoah said he likes the potential the Cyclones are showing with head coach Matt Campbell at the controls.
“I definitely like Iowa State’s program,” he said. “They’re in a period now where they’re not having the best of luck, but that doesn’t matter because they’re going to progress and have a lot of young guys playing right now. They’re going to get better every day.”
I-State is one of two Power-5 offers for Asamoah, who says a visit could soon be in the offing.
“I have offers from Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Toledo and Eastern Kentucky,” he said. “Iowa State is one of the high ones right now. I’d like to get out there and see it all for myself. I’m going to take a visit out there soon, but I’m not sure when.”
In addition to his offer schools, Asamoah is being recruited heavily by Power-5 programs Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State, Notre Dame.
