Saw this in a Yahoo Sports article today as part of an argument in support of the legislation signed in CA regarding athletes being allowed to profit from their name. The point being made is that the recruiting playing field is already far from "level".
Over the past 3 years, there have been 97 football players ranked as 5* recruits by Rivals. 55 of those 97 recruits were signed by 1 of 5 schools. Which 5 teams you ask? They make up the top 5 teams in the current AP poll. That "leaves" 42 5* recruits for the remaining 120+ FBS schools. Wow....
