Could a 7 and 7 improvement equal a 6 and 6 record

We're all looking for a lot of improvement from our Football team this fall. So this got me thinking, how much improvement would we need to get to a bowl? And which side of the ball do you think we'll see more improvement from this season?

My question is; what if the offense scored 7 more points per game and what if the defense gave up 7 less ppg? Is that enough improvement to get us to 6 and 6? And which do you all think has a better chance of improving by 7?

The offense scored 23.2 (96th in nation out of 125 teams) points per game, what if this year they average 30.2 ppg? That would bring us up to (based off last years numbers) 54th or 55th in the nation in points scored, ahead of Iowa 28.2 and OSU at 27.6 and just behind Texas Tech at 30.5.

And what if our defense that allowed 38.8 ppg (115th out of 125) gave up 7 less ppg? That would bring us up to 98th in nation tied with Miami OH. Better than Kansas at 33.3 and close to Toledo at 30.5 and OSU at 31.2

I'd like to think the offense, with a 5th yr QB and lots of weapons at WR and going into second year for Mangino as OC that they should/could improve by 7. But at same time the defense has so much room for improvement that 7 point decrease should be doable.
What do you think?
