Stopped in at Dutch Oven Bakery in downtown Ames a few minutes ago. A strapping young fella with an non-Iowa accent (sounded kind of Bronx, New Jersey-ish) was placing a good-sized order.
Upon further review, I noticed he had a Clemson windbreaker on, so I struck up a conversation. He said about 8 from the Clemson football staff were in Ames exchanging ideas and notes with the ISU staff for a few days. Not sure if these were high-level coaches or perhaps support staff.
He said Coach Campbell spoke to the group last evening and "he was phenomenal". This guy mentioned there are many similarities between Coach Campbell and Coach Swinney, their philosophy on running a program and in the culture of the two programs and communities.
I told him if Clemson ever had more D-linemen than they can use, feel free to send some our way.
He also said he found the best bakery in Ames.
He was one heckuva nice guy.
