A Minnesota high school junior recently picked up an Iowa State offer, his second from a Power-5 school early in the recruiting process.
Minneapolis Robbinsdale Cooper Class of 2017 prospect Eric Abojei said he got the message from his high school coach earlier this week.
“My coach told me (Monday night) that they had given me an offer,” said Abojei, who has also been offered by Minnesota. “I’m supposed to talk to the head coach (Matt Campbell) pretty soon. It feels really good to get an offer from a school like Iowa State. I was shocked and surprised. It’s overwhelming and I don’t know what to say about it.”
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Abojei said the Cyclones had been one of the programs with heavy interest prior to making the offer. Michigan and Wisconsin have also been recruiting him.
“I recently had received some messages from the offensive line coach (Tom Manning) and quarterbacks coach (Jim Hofher). They really like me and feel I fit well in the program. They would like me to come down there for a visit and I will be going on an unofficial there soon.”
Abojei said he likes what he’s seen of the Cyclones both on and off the field.
“I’ve done some research on a lot of colleges that I’ve had interest in and Iowa State was one of the big ones,” he said.
“I’ve been wanting more offers and Iowa State was one of the places I’ve always had interest in. I’ve looked into the football program and really like it. I’ve also looked into the school itself. They do have a lot of opportunities and things that I like. I love the academic support staff and feel welcome from them.”
