An Illinois offensive prospect in the 2020 class took a swing through the state of Iowa last week, visiting Iowa State on Friday before heading east to Iowa City.

Chicago Curie junior Kevo Wesley said he enjoyed getting to watch one of the Cyclones’ final workouts of the spring season.

“I took a tour of the campus and then had meetings with Coach (Jeff) Myers, Coach (Matt) Campbell and the strength coach,” said Wesley. “We basically just talked about what Iowa State has to offer and what they are trying to build there. He wanted me to know how connected he is with his players and what is plans for ISU are. He gave me advice about doing what’s best for me.

“Then I got to watch them practice and see how they run things on the field. Coach Campbell is very in tune with all his players. Coach Myers is very relatable because he is not far removed from what we are going through. I liked how at the practice there are about four or five guys working with the development of the offensive line, including Coach Campbell and Coach (Tom) Manning.”

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Wesley is a three-star prospect with a 5.5 Rivals rating and is considered the 14th overall recruit in Illinois for the 2020 class. In addition to his I-State offer, Wesley has Power-5 ones from Arizona, Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Washington State.

Wesley said he was encouraged by how Myers works with the current players and believes he could be a good fit as a position coach.

“He just talked about his philosophy and how they teach offensive linemen to play there,” Wesley said. “He likes my athleticism because of the scheme they run. He says they need athletic lineman that can move and get in space, he believes I possess the traits to be able to do that.”

As an offensive lineman, Wesley took particular interest in how the Cyclones are developing student-athletes at his position.

“At first, I didn’t really know what it would look like being that its Iowa and I’m from Chicago, but it was a nice place and it seemed like it had good people in it,” he said. “All of the facilities are very nice. The weight room is the best part to me. It seems like they have everything for you to be a great athlete in there.”

Following his one-day stop in Ames, Wesley said he believes ISU has as good a chance as any program that’s offered.

“ISU is definitely in the top tier of my list,” he said. “I haven’t decided on any official visits yet.”
