Iowa State took its best shot yesterday hosting a Missouri high school tight end that is down to three finalists as signing day approaches.
Nixa senior Chase Allen, the son of former Iowa State assistant coach Terry Allen, said he loved being back in Ames and seeing the new coaching staff that has taken over.
“Coach Campbell and Coach Golesh are some of the most genuine guys I’ve met throughout the whole recruiting process and I felt very comfortable with them and being back in Ames,” said Allen, a three-star recruit that’s ranked fifth overall in the state of Missouri and 22nd at his position nationally.
“I have been a Cyclone fan since my dad was coaching there and it was good to see how much the facilities and program have continued in its development.”
The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Allen said he’s being recruited to play a much-needed role in the offense at tight end.
“They said I can be a huge piece of what they are trying to build there and need someone of my size, athleticism and versatility.”
Allen was hosted by a current Cyclone player and also spent some time with a former standout that’s now playing in the professional ranks.
“Allen Lazard was my host, so I got to sit next to him at the (Big Monday) game,” Allen said. “I also spent a lot of time with former Cyclone tight end E.J. Bibbs too and they were saying how close the place is to just taking off.”
Monday’s visit capped off a busy stretch of official visits for Allen, who had visited Nebraska on Sunday and Michigan the previous weekend. He also visited Minnesota in early December.
It appears to be down to three for Allen, who said he’ll likely make his decision in the coming days.
“I’m still very undecided between Iowa State, Nebraska and Michigan,” he said.
