Although he de-committed from the Cyclones after picking them over the summer, Georgia prep offensive lineman Caleb Chandler says he's still being recruited just as hard by several on Matt Campbell's staff.
The Jefferson (Ga.) senior said the next step in the process is to take an official visit, which he hasn't officially settled on a date yet.
"Me and Iowa State are pretty good," said Chandler. "I'm still talking to the coaches every day. Me and Coach Campbell, Coach (Bryan) Gasser and all of the coaching staff are still good.
"I'm still talking to some of the players, including Zeb (Noland), and we're still good. It sucks about Zeb's injury and I'm sad that it happened to a good guy, but he'll be back. I'm still planning to fly in for a visit sometime in the fall, but don't know yet."
Although the news of the 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive lineman's decommitment was certainly not what the coaching staff wanted to hear, it hasn't had a negative effect on his recruitment.
"There's no way they can show me any more love than what they already have," Chandler said. "They still talk to me the same way as before, telling me I can be a key component to this recruiting class and be a leader right away as soon as I get there. Nothing has changed. Our relationship is still just as strong as it was before."
Noland, who went down with a knee injury and will miss the 2016 season, is also doing what he can to get Chandler back into the fold.
"We've talked a little bit since his injury," Chandler said. "I told him that I'm sorry but I know he's going to be as strong as ever when he gets back. He told me he's going to work hard to get back and that my big butt better be there by the time he's back."
Chandler's Jefferson squad takes on Atlanta Riverwood on Friday night and the big man said he wouldn't be surprised if an I-State coach is on hand.
"I talked to Coach Campbell (Tuesday) and he kept asking me what time the game kicks off on Friday, so I'm thinking he might be coming down to see me on Friday," Chandler said.
When Chandler opened up his recruitment, he did so to get a better look at other top Power-5 schools on his list. That pack of schools looks to be narrowed to five at this point.
"I'm still working on scheduling all of (my visits)," Chandler said. "Nothing is really set at this point. I know the schools will be Miami, Florida, Mississippi State, Louisville and Iowa State. I'm anxious to see what it's like at some of these other schools."
Chandler said he has set a date of December 18th to announce a commitment.
